We are now looking to hire an experienced Director of Engineering to join our team in Oslo. As the Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for leading and developing the engineering team and have overall responsibility for the operations and technical development of our products.

The position

As the Director of Engineering, you will be part of the leadership team, reporting to the CEO. You will lead and develop a team of 6-8 highly experienced developers while contributing to the overall development of No Isolation and bridging the gap between the engineering department and the rest of the company.

Key tasks and responsibilities

Lead and develop the engineering team and people:

  • Day-to-day team management, including resource planning, sprint planning, follow-up of team members on progress and priorities, and ongoing help to the team members
  • Performance management through setting objectives, conducting performance reviews, and providing feedback and coaching.
  • Support career development of team members by identifying growth opportunities, mentoring, and supporting skill development
  • Further develop and strengthen the engineering team through attracting, recruiting and onboarding of new employees
  • Build a high performing team with strong motivation and culture by fostering a positive, collaborative, and innovative work environment with high employee retention

Manage and improve software development processes:

  • Manage and further develop core processes across development, testing, deployment, and release planning and execution
  • Establish and implement coding standards, reviews, and quality gates
  • Oversee project timelines, milestones, and release planning
  • Develop and manage development tools, frameworks, and platforms
  • Ensure proper documentation practices and effective knowledge transfer
  • Detecting, tracking, and mitigating technical and process risks

Accountable for the technical implementation of our product:

  • Choice of technology and architecture, selecting appropriate technologies, frameworks, and tools
  • Planning and execution of updates and migrations
  • Architectural design, ensuring a scalable, reliable, and maintainable system architecture
  • Shared standards and best practices, including architectural standards, patterns, and guidelines across projects
  • Ensuring architectural consistency and quality through reviews
  • Planning and optimizing system performance, load handling, and future scalability
  • Integrating security best practices into architecture and technology choices
  • Overseeing infrastructure choices
  • Maintaining clear architectural documentation and guidelines

Ensure compliance with cybersecurity requirements:

  • Secure development lifecycle, embedding security into all phases of software development, from planning to deployment
  • Threat modelling and risk assessment, including conducting regular threat analyses and vulnerability assessments, including vendors or external integrations
  • Access controls and identity management, including access control policies, multi-factor authentication, and least privilege principles
  • Data security and privacy, including implementation of encryption, anonymization, and other privacy-preserving measures in line with customer and regulatory requirements

Who are we looking for?

You have a proven track record of leadership of engineering teams, with a minimum of 3 years` experience in leadership roles. You have strong people leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire technical professionals and build a high performing team.

Key Skills and Competencies:

  • Formal education within computer science, information technology, or similar, ideally as a MSc (minimum bachelor’s degree)
  • Extensive experience from software development, with focus on backend / fullstack
  • Extensive experience from cloud software development, with deep knowledge of core principles and best practices for development, operation and security of cloud solutions
  • Strong systems and architecture experience and ability to select appropriate technologies, frameworks and tools
  • Cybersecurity knowledge / experience
  • Some knowledge of embedded software development is an advantage
