Norges Bank Investment Management (NBIM) manages approximately NOK 20 trillion on behalf of current and future generations in Norway. As part of this responsibility, we build and operate technology that must be robust, secure, and production-ready at scale.

The Machine Learning and AI team develops and runs AI-based systems used across the organisation. Our work focuses on concrete, production-grade solutions that improve operational efficiency, strengthen risk management, and support investment processes. The team builds software that is deployed, maintained, monitored, and evolved over time — not prototypes or demos.

We are now expanding the team and are looking for a Senior AI & ML Engineer with strong software engineering skills who wants to design, build, and operate AI systems in a real production environment.

What you will do

• Design and implement robust, maintainable, and scalable software architectures for AI-driven solutions

• Develop production-grade Python applications using LLMs

• Build and maintain APIs and service integrations, including LLM services

• Design, implement, and refine prompting strategies, agents and Model Context Protocols (MCPs)

• Deploy and operate secure and scalable AI services on AWS

• Work closely with business units to translate concrete needs into working, deployed solutions

• Contribute to internal tooling and patterns that enable colleagues to use AI systems effectively

What you need

• Strong Python development experience, including:

  • Building and maintaining production systemsExperience creating APIs

  • Performance tuning and code optimisation

  • Use of established software design patterns and best practices

• 6-8 years hands-on experience integrating modern AI/ML frameworks and LLMs

• Practical experience working with LLMs (e.g. Claude Sonnet) and prompt engineering

• Building and running services on modern cloud platform, preferable in AWS

• Degree in any relevant field like STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics)

• A practical, problem-solving mindset and interest in keeping technical skills up to date

Who you are

You are a (senior) hands-on engineer who prefers building working systems over talking about them. You write clean, readable code and care about maintainability, reliability, and security. You are comfortable taking solutions from idea to production and improving them over time.

You collaborate well with both technical and non-technical colleagues, but your primary contribution is through code, system design, and implementation. You are curious about new developments in AI and LLMs, and you evaluate them pragmatically based on how they can be applied in production.
